North Norfolk District Council adopts BlueFish strategy

Feb 18, 2009

A master plan devised by BlueFish for the long-term viability and sustainability of Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk has been adopted by North Norfolk District Council.

The strategic report, entitled “Wells for the Future”, proposed a holistic package of projects to ensure the town’s future prosperity. It was commissioned last year by North Norfolk Community Partnership (NNCP) and produced by BlueFish, working in close partnership with a steering group comprising Wells Town Council, Wells Community Partnership, North Norfolk District Council and other local interests.

Five priority projects and seven longer term projects have been recommended in the study as positive solutions to providing jobs, homes and facilities for local people. Ways of extending the busy tourist season in popular Wells-next-the-Sea have also been highlighted. An important early project will be the proposed Maltings Square development, aimed at providing a cultural-led, mixed-use destination in Wells. Funding is currently being sought to develop this scheme further. The Chairman of Wells Town Council, Allen Frary, who was on the study’s steering group said “Wells Town Council is working hard to retain the special character of the town on behalf of its residents and will be actively involved in all stages of the programme to make this happen.”
