BlueFish MD joins Yorkshire Housing board

One of Yorkshire's largest housing associations has recruited a BlueFish Managing Director Imelda Havers to its board.

Imelda Havers, has recently joined the board of Yorkshire Housing, a charitable housing association which runs some 16,000 properties across the region for over 40,000 people.

Havers is a former project manager of St John's Urban Village in Wolverhampton and a former chief executive of York-england, the inward investment agency for York and North Yorkshire.

In recent years through her company Bluefish Regeneration she has been spearheading regeneration projects in rural and coastal communities around the UK, including Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk and Whitehaven in Cumbria. A current project is a plan to introduce Skypods - environmentally sensitive walkers' huts - along the Cleveland Way and Yorkshire Wold Ways national trails.

Havers has been a vice-chair of Yorkshire Housing's central committee, covering York and parts of North Yorkshire, for the past 18 months, but said she has been brought onto the board of Yorkshire Housing for her commercial and regeneration expertise.

"Housing authorities are having to respond to changes in the market brought about by the launch of the Homes & Communities Agency and the Tenant Services Authority, which aims to set minimum standards of service that housing associations are meant to offer their tenants," she said. "In terms of regeneration, housing associations are also having to work on two levels - not just on the physical regeneration, but also on day-to-day community building. Increasingly they are being given the job of running neighbourhoods."

Gill Baker, Yorkshire Housing's governance manager, said: "Imelda's knowledge of regeneration partnerships and her experience of running a business, coupled with her appreciation of the customer perspective and willingness to question how we do things, means she has quickly become a valuable member of Yorkshire Housing's board."
